WELCOME TO UKRAINE HOUSE!
Official home of Ukraine’s Olympic team for the 2010 Winter Olympics is being run jointly by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Embassy of Ukraine in Canada and Ukrainian Canadian Congress. Ukraine House will be officially opened on February 11th, 2010 and will be open to the public from February 12th through to the 28th. Located in the heart of Vancouver, at the Ukrainian Catholic Church -3150 Ash Street, Ukraine House will be a small piece of Ukraine in Canada. Every day, starting on February 11, 2010, the House will host honored guests and people who wish to support and strengthen the spirit of the Ukrainian National Olympic team. Planned events include entertainment for the general public as well as more formal celebrations on the occasion of opening of the Games and special receptions for guests of honor. During the eleven days, entrance to the House will be free of charge and its doors will be open to the residents of Vancouver and visitors from all over the world. On February 13 and 20, special charitable festivities will take place – St. Valentine's Day and the Ukrainian Olympic Ball, which you can attend by purchasing tickets in advance. During three days (February 15, 23 and 27) Ukraine House will be closed to the general public as there will be private receptions held for special guests of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC).


Ukraine House Schedule (February 12 - 28, except for special events)

During the Olympics, the atmosphere of Ukraine House will permeate with excitement from the collective supporting of the Ukrainian athletes. All sporting events will be broadcasted live on big screens. Guests of the House will be offered traditional Ukrainian food dishes – perogies, (dumplings), stuffed cabbage, sausage, borscht ... There will also be something to quench your thirst- visitors will be able to sample famous Ukrainian vodka and beer.

There is plenty in the schedule of daily musical performances all provided by artists from both Ukraine and Canada. Young, talented musician and singer, Mikhaylo Haideichuk from Ivano-Frankivsk region, the folk group "Veseli Muzyky" from Kyiv, folk singer Vasyl Melnykovych (“Hutsul-Hooligan”) from Ukrainian Carpathians, Ihor Bohdan from Calgary and many others will perform on the stage of Ukraine House.

On Sunday, February 21, there will be an open auction of sports memorabilia, where the running shoes in which Serhiy Bubka set the world record in pole-vaulting, will occupy a prominent place.

Fans will have the opportunity to have a picture taken and get autographs from many of the distinguished guests visiting Ukraine House during the Olympics. Among them are Serhiy Bubka, Ukrainian, European, and World champion in pole-vaulting and President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, athletes from the Ukrainian Olympic team, Ambassador of Ukraine in Canada, Mr. Ihor Ostash, along with other government officials from Ukraine and leaders of the Ukrainian diaspora.

Souvenirs will be available for purchase providing the visitors with wonderful memories long after their two-week holiday ends. Mementos include badges and T-shirts with the unique emblem of Ukraine House. The emblem itself displays the colors of traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts. This ornament honors the First Nation people, on whose lands the Olympics take place and is also reminiscent of Ukrainian antiquity of the days of Trypillia.

For representatives from the media, Ukraine House will be a source of information with a full-fledged media center including a designated workspace and Internet access.

 

St. Valentine's Day Celebration (February 13)

The Holiday of Love, will be celebrated almost everywhere around the world in the midst of the Winter Olympics. It is an opportunity to show your love, be it to someone close to you, sports or an entire country. Ukraine House together with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress-Vancouver Branch and Ukrainian Canadian Social Services-Vancouver Branch, is inviting you to celebrate St. Valentine's Day at Ukraine House.

The organizers of this event have prepared special holiday musical entertainment as part of a gala concert featuring Canadian and Ukrainian artists, fun contests with exciting prizes, and traditional national food dishes.

Special musical guests include the band "Veseli Muzyky" from Kyiv, the music group "Nova Khvylyna”, a young Ukrainian singer Dana Kolomiets from Vancouver, with many other musicians and vocalists all performing on stage of Ukraine House to help celebrate St. Valentine's Day.

Organizers of Ukraine House are expecting more than 300 guests, including distinguished representatives of the NOC and the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada, delegates of the World Congress of Ukrainian Youth Association, Ukrainian diaspora, Vancouver tourists and friends of Ukraine and all Ukrainians.

All funds collected will be used to support Ukraine House in Vancouver and the Ukrainian Para-Olympic team.

Tickets: $ 15 CAD for adults and $ 5 CAD for children under 12. Dinner Ticket- $ 10.

Tickets must be purchased before February 10, 2010.

 

Ukrainian Olympic Ball (February 20)

The journal of the Ukrainian diaspora in North America Solovei Magazine and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress are inviting all of you to attend the Ukrainian Olympic Ball in honor of the National Olympic Team of Ukraine.

More than two hundred supporters of Ukraine from around the world will have an opportunity to meet with the guests of honor – the athletes and officials of the Ukrainian Olympic team, Mr. Ihor Ostash- Ambassador of Ukraine in Canada, Bishop Ken Nowakowski of New Westminster Ukrainian Catholic diocese in Canada, and representatives of the Governments of Ukraine and Canada.

The program of the Ball includes a real Ukrainian feast created by specially invited famous Ukrainian chefs, concert and entertainment performances by Canadian and Ukrainian artists, a dance with live music and even a ticket raffle for Olympic events.

The music program will be truly unique. Organizers have gathered talented performers from all over Ukraine and Canada. During the Ball, the audience will be entertained by folk group "Veseli Muzyky", young and talented singer Yaroslava Tanko from Kyiv, singer Vasyl Melnykovych (also known under the pseudonym Hutsul-Hooligan) from the Carpathian region of Ukraine, opera singer Adam Junior Kozak, folk-funk band “Wheat in the Barley” from the Ukrainian diaspora, among many others.

Dress code of the event: formal evening dress (suit and tie for men and evening dress for women)

Official opening and closing ceremonies of Ukraine House (February 11 and 27)

Official opening and closing ceremonies of Ukraine House will be private events of the NOC of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada with the participation of top officials from Ukraine (the possibility of the arrival of President and Prime Minister, leaders of political parties and other public organizations of Ukraine are currently being discussed), Ukrainian sports stars – Vitaly and Volodymyr Klichko, Heavy-Weight Boxing World Champions, Serhiy Bubka, pole-vaulting world champion and President of the NOC, athletes and official representatives of the Ukrainian Olympic team.

 

Private reception by the President of the NOC of Ukraine (February 15)

On February 15, the NOC of Ukraine and Ukraine's Minister of Family, Youth and Sports will host a private meeting at Ukraine House for the leadership of the International Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of Olympic Games, the Presidents of Sports Federations of the CIS countries, Ambassadors of Canada and Ukraine, and representatives of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
